Posted on Updated on

Jiaqi Wu, a computer science major who is fascinated with computational biology and bioinformatics, has been awarded a prestigious Bidstrup Undergraduate Fellowship for academic year 2017 – 2018.  This award is a testament to the outstanding commitment to academic excellence made by Jiaqi and Dr. Haynes as a faculty-student team.

Jiaqi first joined the lab to learn molecular cloning under the guidance of graduate student Rene Daer. Jiaqi stayed in the Haynes lab to work as a research member on the ASU International Genetically Engineered Machines Competition (iGEM) team. Currently she is using data from RNA-seq to discover genes that become activated or silenced in response to a new, engineered anti-cancer protein that was developed in the Haynes lab. The results will show whether the protein can be used to treat diabetes.
